Obama Forgot About Him
November 6, 2008
In Obama’s victory speech I was waiting to hear him thank the man who made his victory possible. I never heard it. Whether Obama is grateful to him or not, I still want to thank Howard Dean.
Howard Dean was nearly the sole voice in 2000 calling for a 50-state strategy. It was just him and the bloggers, and back then the bloggers didn’t matter. Democratic Congressmen and Senators screamed and fought to keep Dean from investing money and opening party offices in places that were Republican strongholds, like Colorado, Nevada, Virginia, North Carolina, and Montana. Dean held firm to his ideals, and the 50-state strategy was born. Dean asked the Internet for political donations, and the Democratic coffers were overflowing while the Republicans were in debt. You know what the results of the 50-state strategy are. Howard Dean paved the road that Obama took to victory.
