Post-Christmas

December 31, 2008

We took the Christmas tree down yesterday. Instead of the usual tedious disassembly, Jim put the assembled tree sections, folded up, into the storage area under the stairs. I had planned to leave the tree until New Year, but we were getting a delivery and needed the space in the living room.

The delivery! We got an exercise bike. It faces the TV to keep us motivated as we pedal. It’s a good idea, as Neither of us likes to go outdoors in the day, and the mosquitos (the ones that might carry malaria!) come out at night. It’s sort of a Christmas present to ourselves. Now we need to use it.

I got the best ever Christmas present. I got hot water that comes out of my kitchen faucet. Washing dishes is ever so much nicer with hot water. Jim has been faithfully putting the clean dishes away, which is the part I never liked to do. Now I can simply wash whatever is dirty without having to put the clean things away to make room. Add the hot water to getting the washer repair done, and I’m one very happy housekeeper.

Tidbits

I got my washer back from repair a week ago. I don’t think it’s the same washer  I sent in for repair, but another of the same model, only quite a bit older than mine. It is rusted and yellowed in places mine was not. I’m not best pleased about it. However, it works.

Today was cold and rainy. By “cold” I mean a high temperature of about 72F, and a low of about 64F. I  wore my grey hoodie sweatshirt and made chili and cornbread for supper because it was just the right weather for it.

We have managed to get a lot of clutter removed from the house. It’s still a work in progress. Oh, and we hired the cleaning lady again. She comes on Fridays, and boy does she work her tail off! I do believe she took getting fired as a comment on the kind of job she was doing – as well she should.
