I Can’t GIVE Stuff Away
February 23, 2011
Me, in Craigslist, in the “Free” section:
Have 2 bright red plant pots, 5 1/2 inches in diameter, with matching saucers. One has feeble aloe vera plant I’ve not quite killed yet. Also 3 dark red tealight holders. Nice for Christmas accents or if you use red in your decor. Must take all.
Respondent:
Hello, I am interested in your red plant pots! How much are you asking for them all..
Me:
I am giving them away, if anybody will bother to come and get them.
I live at 9999 Mystery Blvd, City. Just off Street, south of Other Street. Once you enter condominium complex, go to the right – it’s a one-way street – about 1/4 of the way around the circle, to the first fire hydrant on the right. Park on the left side of the street and walk up the sidewalk right by the fire hydrant. I am the first door on the right side of the sidewalk.
Please call and let me know when you are coming. 999-999-9999.Respondent:
Thank you! I can come and get them this evening – just let me know
Thanks!Me:
I’ll be home this evening, so come on by!
Respondent:
Hi again – are the pots plastic or ceramic? Thanks

Me:
The pots are glazed ceramic, inside and out. They are very nice, they just don’t go with my new home’s color scheme.
Respondent:
I don’t know City very well…I was wondering if we could meet maybe at Cheap Resale Store? I know where that is and the Major Pharmacy chain store! Let me know what you think. Thanks
Me:
No. I was already out today running errands. Not going to use any more gas! I also have no idea where Cheap Resale Store might be, or which of the 3 or 4 Major Pharmacy chain stores you mean. I gave very precise directions to my home; do you not know where the corner of Street and Other Street is?
Respondent:
I know where [Party Store 16 miles from where I live] is! If that helps

Me:
Try Google maps or Mapquest. You seem to have a computer. Learn how to use it.
Respondent:
Lol never mind your are just too rude…thanks any how…
Me, totally fed up now:
I’m the one giving something away for FREE; I expect the person getting the freebie to expend the effort required to come and get it. That means using Google maps to put in the address I already supplied you with if you need better directions than I gave you. That’s not rude. Expecting me to spend money on gas for my car to meet you someplace so I can give you something for free is rude.
